Spring 2025
—Letter From the Editors
Hellooooo, you!
Did you see that triple rainbow last week? Have you been crossing your fingers and toes? Wished in any wells lately?
Spring is always full of contradictions. April’s muggy showers, then May’s beautiful flowers. A sweet, gentle breeze one moment, and the deafening growl of Providence motorcycles the next. Something has felt distant; bleary-eyed, maybe. This Spring at v.1, we’re looking for a sign that it’s all going to be okay. In this collection of sensitive, blossoming pieces, we’ve found moments we didn’t expect and soon came to love—beautiful anomalies. And we can only consider it good luck. Despite the hay fever and the promise of bittersweet endings, you’ve been writing and making, and v.1 is here to celebrate it all.
This issue, we invite you to flit through thoughtful interviews, pensive poems, and evocative essays. Find ruminations on food courts, hyperlinks, and eggs. Dive into vivid descriptions of wallowing misery and everyday joy. Look for lucky four-leaf clovers, linger in the negative space, and don’t be afraid to pore over the same patch of words again and again. You might find something hidden or revelatory or wonderfully, hilariously relatable.
These works are best consumed slowly, in the sun, or the shade, perhaps on a leaf, with a tiny bead of dew. Clambering out of our chrysalises, half nervous and half brave, we’re so excited to share these good luck charms with you.
With love from all of us at v.1,
Sako Antonyan, Nino Chambers, Henry Ding, Sarah Qianyin Feng, Katherine Fu, David LeGrand, Nadine Macapagal, Angelina Rodgers, Mina Troise, and Arete Xu
