Spaces Become Sanctuaries

I have known these women for some time before I asked to photograph them. A certain thread of sadness connected us, a shared struggle to carve out a sense of home in a place that still feels new. I was invited into their intimate settings, where I saw them melt. Exploring belonging and the emotional landscapes we carry when we leave behind our safe space, we find an invisible tether that connects us.

A house, a bed, a private room—these spaces become sanctuaries, places of rest and vulnerability. Resettling is not just a physical transition, but a deeply internal one. I wanted to witness the elements that hold them together. I oscillated between documentary and staged photography. When I sensed a narrative floating within a space, I focused on elements to shape a visual story. The images were then printed, cut up, and turned into collages.

In time, I began to see reflections of my own experience within theirs. Being in their spaces, I was looking into a mirror.
