Period Ellipses Comma

Volume.1’s inaugural exhibition on experimental publishing
→ v.1 Team

. , …

Like rivers finding their due course, this year v.1 has wandered from murky to clear. In our meanderings, we’ve been pushing the possibilities of what a publication can be (see: hella experimental), who it’s for (see: radically accessible) and what it talks about (see: nature nature nature). Despite releasing several iterations that play on the core theme of nature of publication and publication of nature, we’ve been compelled to keep picking at the atrocious barnacle stuck to our underbellies: curiosity.

How does one convert the alchemical state of being (solid liquid gas) into a publication? Transmutate the variability of language and contain it in a physical space (. , …)? Turn publication into art; words into experiences?

The . , … (period, comma, ellipses) show is a manifestation of our team’s effort to slap the ampersand to a space and turn our publication into a living, breathing entity. Through our show, we might not have found the perfect answer, but have felt the need to name our saunterings after the physical forms of the period, the comma and the ellipses. The name suggests not just v.1’s experimental kookiness this year, but also the constant state of change the manifest world finds itself in.

We are ‘publishing’ now as we speak. And may arguably continue to do so even after the death of language.

Special thanks to Jen Liese, Director of the Center for Arts and Language, for making everything possible.
